From April 27 to May 2, 2025, 17 students from Athénée de Luxembourg (optional course OEDHE) embarked on an unforgettable Erasmus+ study tour to Katerini, Greece. Joined by peers from Belgium and Greece, the week was packed with hands-on learning, cultural exchange, and meaningful reflections on social solidarity.
Welcomed in Katerini
After arriving in Thessaloniki, the Luxembourg delegation headed to Katerini, where they met their Belgian and Greek counterparts at the NGO Kapnikos Stathmos. This organization served as the main venue for shared meals, workshops, and bonding moments throughout the week.
Collaborative Learning
The programme began with student-led presentations introducing each school and community. Participants engaged in joint activities focused on social issues, including cost-of-living comparisons across countries, the responsibilities of the state, and discussions on solidarity and ecological awareness. A visit to the Greek partner school, 3o Geniko Lykeio Katerinis, allowed students to experience local school life firsthand.
Exploring Greece
Afternoons were dedicated to cultural exploration. Highlights included a trip to the ancient city of Vergina and a scenic hike on Mount Olympus. Students also enjoyed time in Platamonas by the beach and shared in a festive farewell party, strengthening the bonds formed over the week.
Reflections and Farewell
The programme concluded with a participatory evaluation, where students reflected on their experiences. Beyond travel and sightseeing, the week in Greece offered a deeper understanding of empathy, cooperation, and the real-world relevance of global citizenship.
This Erasmus+ experience not only brought students together from different countries but also encouraged them to think critically about the world they live in—and the positive impact they can make.
